Link and Learn Fridays - APP recommendations from 2013-2014
The APP's listed here are recommended for their use to classrooms or families with elementary school age school children or in some cases productivity apps for teachers and parents. Most apps are FREE when chosen, but over time some have moved to a paid format. Kindoma - A read together app using 'Skype' technology for two people to read together anywhere in the world. Great for teachers to setup 'Guest' readers, or for families to read with out of state relatives or parents that travel.
Key Ring - A productivity APP for consolidating all the plastic shopping cards. Using the APP, scan your cards and only use your phone for any store you visit. No more searching for cards or bulging wallets!
Bitsboard - A flash card app for reading. This app does have in-app purchases for compiled sets, but it also allows you to create your own for free. Take pictures of your classroom or home and create flashcards with text. Great for foreign language learners in addition to little ones just learning to read.
Remind101 - Another great productivity APP for connecting with students, family or organization members while keeping all phone numbers anonymous. This app allows you to easily setup a group reminder system where you are assigned a proxy phone number. Your messages are sent to all members without revealing your phone number, nor do you have access to theirs. You can even create all your messages and set their send date up for the future. Great for classrooms, sports teams, clubs, organizations or even a big family event.
Math Champ Challenge - A math skills practice APP for grades 4-7, where students can challenge each other for top scores. FREE with in-app purchases for practice skills.
Math Duel - Fun math practice app for students or teams, this app provides a split screen where players sit on either side of the tablet screen and challenge each other to a timed round to see who can answer the most math facts correctly. Paid app
Book Creator - This is a fabulous app for creating your own read aloud book. Teachers can create them for students, parents or grandparents for their children or students for themselves to hear how they sound when reading aloud. Paid app
Rover - Can't access Flash based websites or games on your tablet? Use this browser instead!
Math Bingo - Answer 5 correct math problems in a row and win an interactive bingo bug. Teachers and parents have access to 'report cards' that show progress for up to 30 profiles.
Free APP of the Day - A good website to follow for getting paid apps free. New or promotional apps are frequently advertised and can be downloaded for a limited time at no cost.
Mystery Math - Answer the math problems correctly in this visually superb math game. Correct answers unlock passageways for rescuing insects in this museum themed game.
Door 24 - An algebra based math practice app in game form, what's really superior about this app are the tutorials that review how to properly solve the equations.
ZAC Browser - While this app was created to enhance and simply the browsing experience for developmentally disabled students, it also provides a safe and engaging internet experience for children with content carefully curated by the ZAC team. *Bonus computer version here
DIY Nano - discover science with hands on experiments that can be done in the classroom or at home. The app lists the instructions, photos and materials list for each experiment.
Common Core - A great reference for common core standards for parents and teachers. Conveniently listed by subject, grade and category
Kids Doodle - This drawing app has endless possibilities for learning. Draw with your finger on the tablet screen with neon brushes, action is then recorded in movie format for playback. Use for letter recognition and handwriting, spelling or more...
I can animate - Make animations from photographs and even narrate. Great for science projects, recipes, or any step by step instructional creations.
Front Row - Math app made by teachers for students and teachers, over 28,000 common core aligned math problems.
Ipad Ideas book- one of many free books that provide ideas and suggestions for using multiple apps together in educational projects. This technique is called app smashing.

Explain Everything - an annotating animation tool that lets you create slideshows with drawing tools or by inserting images, works well with whiteboards!

Overdrive - library interface for downloading e-books, kindle books, or pdf publications from your local library
